He follows Graeme Swann, Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Tremlett in leaving the one-day leg of the tour early while during the five-Test Ashes series, Stuart Broad was ruled out with a stomach injury.

He suffered the injury while batting in the sixth ODI in Sydney, which England went on to lose by two wickets, and the problem left him unable to bowl - hampering England's chances in the field.

The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) expects him to be fully fit in time for England's World Cup campaign, which will see them leave for Bangladesh on 12th February ahead of the tournament beginning on 19th.

Collingwood captained England to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 last year before retiring from Test cricket following England's 3-1 Ashes success in Australia.
