In a high-scoring encounter at Sydney on Sunday, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 64 runs. Here's a look at some significant statistics from the game which lived up to its hype.

Glenn Maxwell registered his maiden one-day hundred in the match. Incredibly, it was the second fastest hundred in the World Cup, coming off 51 balls. The record for the fastest World Cup century remains with Ireland's Kevin O'Brien. It can be recalled that AB de Villiers hit a century off 52 balls against earlier in this World Cup. While Maxwell missed the record for the fastest World Cup hundred, he did break the record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Australia, earlier held by James Faulkner, who had hit a hundred off 57 balls against India a couple of years back.

Kumar Sangakkara created history even in a losing cause. Following his hundred at Sydney, he became the first batsman to score three consecutive hundreds in a World Cup. Many players including Mark Waugh, Saeed Anwar and Rahul Dravid among others have scored two consecutive World Cup hundreds. Mark Waugh, Sourav Ganguly and Matthew Hayden have scored three hundreds in a World Cup.

During the course of his hundred, Sangakkara crossed the 14000 run mark in one-dayers. Only Sachin Tendulkar has scored more runs than him in one-dayers.

Sri Lanka's scored a half-century off only 22 balls in the match. This is now the second fastest fifty by a Sri Lankan in one-dayers, next to Sanath Jayasuriya's fifty from 17 balls against Pakistan back in 1996.

Sri Lanka scored 300 plus and lost. This is only the second time in the World Cup that it has happened. The first instance was also registered in the ongoing World Cup when Zimbabwe made 326 against Ireland, chasing 332.

The match saw some sensational strike rate from Aussie batsmen. Maxwell struck at 192.45, and Brad Haddin at 277.77.

Sri Lanka's bowlers gave away 376 runs in the match. This is the most they have conceded in a World Cup game. Earlier, India scored 373 for 6 against them in the 1999 World Cup at Taunton.

Dilshan took 24 runs from a Johnson over, the second most expensive over by an Australian in one-dayers. Three Aussie bowlers have conceded 26 runs in an over.
