Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma hit out at his team's batsmen for failing to chase down 163 against Rising Pune Supergiant in the Qualifier 1 at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Batting first, RPS were bolstered by Ajinkya Rahane (56), Manoj Tiwary (58) and MS Dhoni's 40 not out off 26 balls. Mumbai started well, but then collapsed with Parthiv Patel top-scoring with 52. Man of the Match Washington Sundar took three for 16.
Rohit felt lack of partnerships hurt them in the chase. "I think 160 was below par to be honest, having seen the scores chased here. Probably the worst batting performance of this season for us. We didn't have enough partnerships, it's crucial to get small partnerships in," Rohit said at the post match presentation ceremony.
The Mumbai skipper was effusive in his praise of Pune's bowlers. "They bowled well to restrict us and to take wickets in the middle overs. Shot selection is very important. You need to understand the situation and the conditions and respect them. You've to pick the gaps and take it to the end and we didn't do that. It's not the end of the world, we still have one more shot in Bangalore," he added.
Mumbai will now take on the winners between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on Wednesday, in Qualifier 2.
